OPEN Indy (Original. Performance. Experiments. Now.) is a short-term workshop program for performing artists and the general community in the Indianapolis area. The aim is to provide accessible, professional, and dynamic training opportunities on an annual basis across the disciplines of dance and theater, making the work accessible to people of all levels and interests, from the novice to the professional. The program is supported through a partnership between IMAC and NoExit Performance, and was initiated through the mutual desire to merge shared interests into a forum for the Indianapolis community to experience cutting edge, cross-disciplinary training and performance.
The OPEN Indy guest artist residency consists of two main components: teaching and performance. While the specifics of each residency can be somewhat flexible, the general framework involves a week-long residency consisting of four 3-hour mixed level masterclasses and two performances of the artists’ work and/or a work the artist creates for the community. To be considered for the OPEN Indy artist-in-residence program, you must:
-
Be an established artist with a significant body of dance/theater (interdisciplinary) work
-
Have extensive teaching experience for the novice to the professional and have developed a unique approach to cross-disciplinary education
-
Have performance-ready solo work(s) and/or a simple piece to set on local performers for the culminating OPEN Indy showcase. You may specify the work be performed in a particular type of venue, (i.e. black box theater, gallery, or other sites), but flexibility in the type of venue needed is optimal.
-
Be a U.S. citizen or have a valid U.S. work visa at the time of your residency
