Butoh is a hybrid form of dance theater that came out of Post WWII Japan and is now practiced worldwide. As a continuously evolving artistic movement, butoh is an eclectic blend of Zen, shamanism, Theater of the Absurd, traditional Japanese arts, Western dance forms, and a variety of other practices from around the globe. Butoh aims to penetrate deeply into the subconscious to excavate hidden layers of our existence. Since its inception, Butoh has been a source of creative inspiration and healing for people of all walks of life. Come discover your own idiosyncratic human nature in community with others through a practice that blends play, ritual, imagination and props. All levels are welcome and no experience is necessary. Come with a curious, open mind and ready to be moved!

Arts Center in Washington, D.C., the BeBe Theater in Asheville, N.C. and Links Hall in Chicago. As a devoted movement educator, Lani has worked in a variety of settings and with a wide range of students, from professional dancers to the elderly and has served on the faculties of numerous colleges and universities throughout Northwest Pennsylvania and the surrounding region from 1998-2016.
