Classes

At Indianapolis Movement Arts Collective we offer a wide range of classes accessible to all bodies, ages, experience levels and interests. Many classes are open to drop ins, and most are offered on an ongoing weekly basis. Check our monthly online calendar for the schedule at a glance, and visit each class’s individual class page for details.

Registration and payment for class sessions can be made online. Many of our classes also accept drop-ins and payments can be made at the door by cash or check, online, or by purchasing a 5 or 10 class card. Please know that all online payments will incur processing fees. If you would like register and pre-pay for a class session or individual class via cash/check, please email info@motusdance.com to make arrangements.

PWYC Modern/Contemporary Technique – Pay what you can to join this community of movers in an int/adv class taught in rotation by IMAC staff and guest artists.  Great for experienced dancers looking to move.

EmbodieDance – Lani Weissbach draws on Eastern and Western practices in this immersive movement experience designed for ALL levels of movers.  Open your senses, deepen your intuition and widen  your movement palette.

Beginning/Intermediate Tap – Get a great tap workout while learning  basic rhythms and funky combinations in a variety of tap styles.  Taught by Deanna Garner of Circle City Tap Company.

Pop Up Hip Hop – High energy, passionate movement. Accessible to dancers of all experience levels, designed to train and unite dancers as they learn cutting edge, new Hip Hop choreography. Taught by Devonte Graham.

Pop Up Adult Beginner Ballet – Lauren Curry will be popping up for a short but sweet Adult Beginner Ballet series this June. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of Ballet technique in a safe, supportive, and FUN environment.

Introduction to Classical & Modern Dance Techniques – This class will introduce movers, even absolute beginners, to classical dance techniques like Ballet as well as Modern dance techniques like Doris Humphrey’s Fall and Recovery and Release technique. Taught by Randy Talley.

Bollywood – A fusion of Indian traditional, classical, and modern styles that is just plain fun!  Usha Sirimalle teaches technique in an energetic environment that will have you smiling throughout the class.

Israeli Folk Dancing – This fun and unique style of dance is a fusion of traditional and contemporary dance styles reflective of the diverse culture of Israel. You don’t need any experience, just a positive attitude, a fun-loving spirit, and an open mind. This class is taught by Rhea McDonald.

Solo Jazz & Swing Dance – Danny Beyrer delivers a swingin’ good time as you kick, twist, and pulse to the infectious music of the swing era.  Learn iconic vernacular Jazz solo routines – Mama Stew, Shim Sham, Big Apple, and the list goes on…

Partnered Swing Dance – Danny Beyrer and Many Hogan explore the momentum, the swung rhythm, and common patterns of Lindy Hop – one of the original swing dances. They will talk about partner connection and how to move around the floor effortlessly with another person.

Belly Dance – Liz Wray’s fun and self-affirming environment will have you loving your body and how it moves.  Beginners discover new muscles as they break down steps.  Advanced students explore more complex, layered choreographies.

Hoop – Using a dojo-style teaching environment, Lynn Spencer-Nelson teaches all level classes that take students from the beginning through to advanced techniques like Chi-ing and folding.

Barre & Center – Experienced/returning dancers will rekindle their dance passion in a fun, joyful, adult-centric environment.  Carrie Gaerte leads a ballet-inspired barre warm-up followed by a jazz/contemporary center.
